It’s Throwback Thursday so I would like to share an old project with you today : ) The above photo shows a mini granny square crossbody bag that I made last Spring,
Even as a crochet newbie, I knew how granny squares are widely loved by crocheters all around the world. However, I hadn’t tried and made one prior to this project as I was not aware of the beauty of granny squares yet.
I remember it was a random day when I was scrolling through Instagram as usual. A photo caught my eyes and it was a crochet crossbody bag. I remembered how I was surprised that granny squares can actually be so pretty and I knew right away that I had to make one for myself.
After gathering the materials, I decided to make the granny squares first and figure out the rest afterwards. It was my very first time to make an item out of a photo without a pattern so it was both exciting and challenging. It did take a while for me to figure out the structure of the crossbody bag and the appropriate stitch count and row count. Eventually, the crossbody bag was done and it looks exactly like the photo I saw on Instagram. I even hand sew a lining into the bag. You can probably tell that I’m super proud of myself haha : )
Overall, it was such a fun experience. That’s when I fell in love with granny squares. I felt so skilful to be able to create the exact item from a photo! I’m sure you know this feeling very well too, my fellow crocheters! It is such a simple, easy and beautiful pattern that can be applied in different situations and turned into various designs. Aww it just has so much potential!
I’ll see if I can recreate the design as a pattern and share with you someday! I’ve been thinking maybe I can also do some sort of pattern writing and share them with you here. It would be a good opportunity to practice and further accumulate my experience for sure!
If you have any pattern writing tips, ideas or any fun crochet experience that you would like to share, please let me know!
P.S. I actually do have a simple pattern under preparation that I want to share with you soon so stay tuned : )
