Yarn trip in Seoul ①

Back in January, I took a trip to Seoul, Korea with my family. As a yarn addict, of course you can already tell I bought yarn there : )

Ever since I started crochet and fell in love with yarn, I always look up local yarn shops when I go on travelling. Before the trip, I did some research online and found this shop that went viral online called ‘Banul Story’.

We had a quite packed itinerary on the day visiting the shop so it was already dark when we arrived. Luckily, the shop was not very crowded at that time.

I was thrilled by this famous yarn wall right after I walked into the shop, even though I’ve seen it on YouTube and Instagram several times already. It’s the biggest yarn wall I’ve ever seen in person so far! I for sure had an adrenaline rush haha.

The shop offers a wide range of yarn selection, along with different tools and patterns for both crochet and knitting.

Project samples and gauge swatches are also displayed around to showcase the patterns and yarns.

All project samples come with a tag including information such as yarn name and tools you need for reference. As a non-Korean speaking person, I’m super grateful for Google translate lol.

I had my eye on this scarf right when I saw it but sadly I can’t knit! This is definitely one of the moments when I wish I could knit : ( However, I did purchase two skeins of the same yarn in the exact color. I’m sure it’ll look as good in crochet!

Here’s another yarn wall in the shop. The shop is really big and full of temptation.

This yarn display reminds me of barbecue skewers haha. The yarns look soooo fluffy!

Let’s admire these gorgeous colors together! I was so tempted to buy them since I can’t resist the colors haha. However, this yarn is way too similar to one of my regulars, in terms of yarn weight, texture and color variations. I had to say goodbye but they’re such eye candy, right?

Beside, there is also a section dedicated to buttons next to the checkout counter. If you’re a fan of buttons, I’m sure you can find some lovely ones for your projects too.

How cute are these amigurumis?! These are displays but there are some in the shop wrapped in cello bags for sale as well.

Apart from the yarn shop storefront, there is a cafe area on the second floor, which can be assessed by the elevator at the right side of the shop entrance.

The view upstairs is even more fascinating and I would recommend going up to have a look even if you don’t need to grab a bite from the cafe.

Unfortunately, the famous button-bread was sold out already by the time we finished shopping and went up. If you had tried it before, please let me know if you love it!

Let’s talk about my experience during this visit. The shop is very neat and tidy as you see from the photos above. The eye-catching displays definitely aroused my desire to make a purchase.

The yarns they offer are very colorful in general with quite a lot of options. Since I can’t read Korean and I found it time consuming to translate the yarn tag one by one, I tried to feel the texture with my hands and find the ones that I like first. Most of them are soft but not really suit my likings.

Also, I find the yarn a bit pricy in general. However, it’s just that I’m on a budget with my yarn purchase. With the same amount of money, I can buy more yarns from some more budget-friendly brands. There weren’t much options for me to find a yarn that fits my desired yarn weight and budget with multiple color selections. Additionally, I’m also worried not to be able to re-purchase if I run short for my project.

However, if you live in Korea or travel to the country quite often, this would be a great place to visit as it doesn’t not only provide a huge line of product, but also a pleasant place to work on your projects.

As a fellow yarn lover, I did enjoy my time there. If you happen to visit Seoul, you would want to put this shop onto your to-go places too.

I hope you find my sharing useful and I’ll show you my yarn haul in the next post of the yarn trip series : )
