Yarn trip in Seoul ②

When planning the itinerary for this trip to Seoul, I only had one yarn shop on the list. You may check out my previous post for more information. After visiting that shop, I have already gotten one item crossed off from my bucket list.

However, things got even better when this yarn shop just came out of nowhere while we were exploring the Namdaemun Market on a freezing morning the other day. *Please note that I hid the faces of the shopkeepers with an emoji for privacy reasons.*

Right before I discovered this shop, we were walking around and checking out different small shops in the area. Some colorful coasters (similar to the ones in the top left corner of the photo above) entered my sight when we walked past this shop and my first thought was ‘Oh wow they look like they’re made by crochet!’. It literally took me about 2 seconds to look around and realized it was actually a yarn shop! Can you imagine how surprised I was?! It definitely gave me the idea of how I was destined to buy more yarns before going home haha.

And yes, you’re right about me. I then went straight into the shop, had my eye on some yarn packs, and bam! I got out of the shop with a bag of lovely yarns : ) It only took about 10 minutes and it’s definitely my fastest yarn shopping record haha.

Similar to the previous post of this yarn trip series, I’ll share about my experience during my visit. My first impression of the shop is that there are quite a lot of yarns in bright neon colors. Stacks of neon yarn packs are placed right outside the store as shown in the photo above. There are more colors available inside the shop such as brown, navy, black, burgundy, ivory and grey.

In general, this shop does give me the typical small local yarn shop vibes, which is quite similar to the ones I have visited back in Hong Kong. They both share some similarities such as small shop size, the number of staff and the stock of yarn piles. I did feel nostalgic there and they have quite a wide range of selections in terms of both yarn types and colors.

As for the pricing, I remember that there were not many price labels displayed in store and you need to ask the staff for the price. They seem to be only selling yarns in packs and all yarn packs displayed in store are wrapped in cello bags. It is not allowed to touch the yarn and feel the texture directly before purchase. This could be a drawback for people who prioritizes yarn texture over other factors. Unfortunately, I don’t remember how much I spent there as they didn’t issue any receipts and I didn’t keep a record. But I do recall thinking the yarns were more budget-friendly and affordable compared to the other shop I introduced last time. I did immediately opened my yarn packs and squeezed the yarns once I got out of the shop. Luckily, they were both soft and fluffy.

On the day of my visit, there were two senior male shopkeepers and we mainly used simple English and a few Japanese terms for communication. Since it was a really small shop and not being able to communicate freely made me way too nervous to spend any longer in the shop. I’m not sure if it is also a thing for you but as an introvert, I do tend to get nervous when interacting with shopkeepers in stores that I’m not familiar with when going shopping haha. It was solely my problem and both shopkeepers were very kind and nice. However, I do recommend using translation applications such as Google translate or Papago if you’re also a non-Korean speaker. It would definitely be more convenient for both parties.

If you happen to visit Seoul and plan to spend some time near the Namdaemun Market area, you may also want to put this shop onto your travel list for some affordable yarns.

Although I could not find any information about this yarn shop on the Internet, I managed to find it on Google maps following the path we walked around the area on that day. You should be able to locate it by typing the address below and see the storefront using street view in Google Maps.

As a fellow yarn lover, you know a yarn trip blog post is never complete without a proper introduction to the yarn haul! It would be a crime haha. The eight skeins of Premier Wool on the left are purchased from the small yarn shop I introduced in this post. I really liked how it felt when I poked onto the yarn outside the cello bag so I bought this yarn in two different colors, grey and burgundy. I was so happy that they turned out to be so fluffy!

These five skeins along with the lovely knit bear charm are purchased from the shop I introduced last time. Butter 6 is way too soft and I can’t help but bought two skeins each of my two favourite colors. Teasy is also super fluffy but it was way too pricy for me to grab more. Last but not least, I felt in love with the knit bear charm right away and had to get one for myself haha.

As you can see above, I ended up buying 13 skeins of yarn in total and I’m full of joy already. It’s actually not that bad, right?! To be honest, I was gonna buy less but my family encouraged me to buy more since it’s a precious experience visiting the shop. They were super supportive the whole time! I’m really grateful for them considering the time they had to wait for me when I was filming, taking photos and shopping there. I’ll probably make some infinity scarves with the Premier Wool and beret hats with the Butter 6 yarns.

By the way, the featured photo is taken at a famous local cafe. The pastry there was really tasty! The cute stingray plushy featured is a cutie bought by my mom in the Coex Aquarium : )

Before I go, here’s a little exciting news! I’ve been working on a beret hat pattern over the past few months and it’s finally settled after rounds and rounds of alteration. I know, it should not be taking this long for a beret hat pattern. I was hoping to finish it earlier but with the very limited time and my desire to further enhance the pattern, it took longer than expected… Although I would love to share with you sooner, I won’t be able to film the tutorial video until later this month due to a few upcoming examinations and tight work schedule in late May. I’ll see if I can squeeze some time and finish it by the first week of June. Please stay tuned if you’re also a fan of beret hats : )

Once again, I hope you find my sharing useful. I’ll try to keep up with the blog update and see you in the next post!

P.S. I’m just back from a trip to Hokkaido, Japan and I had a blast along with a shopping spree there haha. I’ll share with you more about the trip later!
